OUR TUNGSTEN RINGS ARE COBALT FREE - READ ON!
Tungsten rings are created by combining a large amount of tungsten powder with binding agents such as cobalt or nickel under high pressure and high heat. There are many versions and variations in the formulas industry wide. The cheapest and most harmful version uses cobalt as the binding agent.
The widely available industry standard formula has 85% tungsten, 15% nickel. Other popular formulas has 85% tungsten, 14% nickel and 1% chromium. Chromium helps reduce corrosion and increase shiny properties (easy to polish). A small number of companies use as much as 89% tungsten, 10% nickel, 1% chromium, but we found that formula to be too much tungsten and too little binding agent (brittleness issues). Although all tungsten rings are naturally brittle, one formula might make it more brittle than another.
Our balanced and proven formula has 85.7% tungsten, the rest is chromium, titanium, tantalum, niobium, nickel. Our formula is pending pattern registration )so we can't disclose the exact percentage of the rest at this time). Instead of just adding chromium to the formula, we found titanium, tantalum, niobium helps balance the brittleness, the toughness and the ability to keep its shine for a very long time. After 6000+ rings sold in many years through our many channels and our contracted resellers, we found this to be the best formula for our customers.
HOW TO FIND OUT IF COBALT OR NICKEL WAS USED IN YOUR TUNGSTEN RING?
Cobalt binding agent is cheaper than nickel binding agent for tungsten rings. So the first give away would be the price. Cheap tungsten rings are more likely to have used cobalt in the formula.
It is hard if not impossible to tell the difference just by looking at the rings. On the outside they all look the same. In the long term, tungsten rings with cobalt will start showing its down sides. There will be oxidized spots that is impossible to buff or polish away. Negative skin reaction is another down side.
It is best to check with the seller/company before you purchase. We will go ahead and clear that question for you. Our tungsten rings use the most balanced formula, are COBALT-FREE and are HYPOALLEGENIC. The process of combining the tungsten powder, chromium, titanium, tantalum, niobium, and nickel under high pressure and high heat form a bonding so strong that nickel loses its ability to cause allergic reaction to skin.
